A consultation in Wales has just opened following the implementation of the Water Industry (Schemes for Adoption of Private Sewers) Regulations 2011. The consultation is seeking views on moving from current to new adoption arrangements; mandatory build standards for newly built sewers and lateral drains; draft Regulations to ensure that the adoption process is completed; and Impact assessment for the mandatory build standards.

A consultation is imminent from DEFRA on similar changes in England.

A consultation in Wales is open on the Construction and Demolition Waste Sector Plan. The consultation closes at the end of January 2012. The consultation includes proposals to cover four key areas-

  • waste prevention- reducing waste arisings produced and use of ecodesign;

  • preparation for reuse- use of demolition plans and encourage partnerships for reuse between contractors

  • recycling and  treatment- better waste  segregation and use of recycled materials, and

  • disposal- sustainable treatment and disposal- seek to reduce landfill to zero.
